Little Blooming Minds: Stories for Big Feelings

Children do not always experience the world in small ways. A new classroom can feel enormous. A new sibling can change everything. A friendship can become the most important thing in the world. And while adults may understand these moments as temporary parts of growing up, children are often experiencing them for the very first time.

That is the space Little Blooming Minds was created to enter.

What began as bedtime stories written by a mother for her own children gradually became something larger: a way to help children understand what they are feeling, see themselves reflected in the story, and approach difficult or unfamiliar moments with a little more confidence.

As families prepare for another school year, we spoke with Pascale Ghantous, the founder of Little Blooming Minds about where the idea began, why storytelling became such an important tool for connection, what personalization adds to the experience, and the moments that showed her just how far a story can travel beyond bedtime.

1- A new school year can be exciting but it can also feel a little overwhelming. If you could write one story for every child going back to school this year, what would you want its message to be?

I would want every child to know that it's okay to feel nervous. Being brave doesn't mean you're never scared, it means taking that first step anyway. Every new classroom, every new friendship, every new experience is the beginning of something beautiful. I would want every child to finish that story believing in themselves and knowing that they're never alone.

2- You started writing stories long before Little Blooming Minds existed. What inspired you to create your own stories for your children?

It all started with my own children. At bedtime, I wanted more than just reading a story, I wanted them to feel like they were part of it. I began creating little adventures where they were the main characters, learning, laughing, growing, and seeing themselves as capable and loved. Those moments became our favorite part of the day, and that's where the seed of Little Blooming Minds was planted.

3- What was it about storytelling that made it such a meaningful way to connect with them?

Stories have a beautiful way of reaching children where simple conversations sometimes can't. Through a story, they can understand emotions, ask questions, imagine possibilities, and feel safe enough to explore difficult topics. It became our special time together, a way to connect, to teach, to comfort, and to create memories they'll hopefully carry with them forever.

4- Many of your stories help children navigate real-life emotions and milestones. Why was that important to you as a mother?

As a mother, I realized that childhood is filled with big emotions in very little hearts. Starting school, welcoming a sibling, feeling scared, making friends, these moments shape who they become. I wanted my children to have stories that didn't just entertain them but helped them understand what they were feeling and reminded them that every emotion is normal and every challenge can be overcome.

5- At what point did you realize these stories could mean just as much to other families?

It happened when I started noticing that the stories weren't ending at bedtime. The next day, I would see my children reacting differently to situations, showing more kindness to each other, handling big emotions with more confidence, and remembering the lessons from the stories we had shared. That's when I realized the stories were truly shaping the way they thought and behaved.

It made me believe that through simple, meaningful stories, children can reflect on their own lives and begin applying those messages in their everyday moments. If these stories could guide my own children through challenges, emotions, and important milestones, I knew they could do the same for other families. That's the moment Little Blooming Minds became so much bigger than our own bedtime stories.

6- Every Little Blooming Minds book is deeply personal. What does the personalization add that a traditional storybook can't?

Personalization transforms a child from being the reader into becoming the main character in the story. They're not imagining someone else's adventure, they're living their own. Seeing their name, their family, their favorite things, toys, and even their own milestones makes the message so much more meaningful. It builds confidence, encourages a love for reading, and creates memories that families treasure long after the story ends.

7- What's been one of the most memorable reactions you've received from a child or parent after receiving one of your books?

One of the greatest gifts of this journey is hearing how these stories become part of a family's life. The topics are endless, and over the past year I've received countless videos, photos, and voice notes from parents sharing those special moments. Most of them remain private out of respect for each family's story, unless they choose to share them themselves or give me permission to do so.

But there's one message that will stay with me forever. It was a voice note from a mother whose daughter was undergoing chemotherapy. She shared what the book meant to her daughter during such a difficult time and how it had become a source of comfort and strength. Her words touched me in a way I'll never be able to fully describe.

To know that something I created could become even the smallest part of a little girl's journey from battle to championship is one of the greatest honors of my life. Moments like that remind me that these books are so much more than stories, they're companions through some of life's most important moments.

8- If every child going back to school this year could carry one lesson from your stories into the classroom, what would you hope it would be?

I hope they remember that kindness is a superpower. Be kind to yourself when something feels hard, be kind to others because everyone is fighting little battles we can't see, and never be afraid to be exactly who you are. Confidence grows when children know they are loved, capable, and enough just as they are.

What Happens When Children Recognize Themselves in a Story

What stands out in the Little Blooming Minds story is not simply that the books are personalized, or even that they deal with subjects children recognize from their own lives. It is what happens when those two things come together. A child is not being asked to observe someone else navigate fear, change, friendship, or a new beginning from a distance. The story brings those experiences closer, gives them language, and creates an opportunity for the child and the family to return to them together. And perhaps that is why a story can sometimes continue long after the final page has been turned.

As another school year begins, children will walk into classrooms carrying excitement, uncertainty, questions, and emotions they may not yet know how to explain. Giving those feelings a place in a story does not make every difficult moment disappear. However, it can help make that moment feel more understandable and a little less lonely.
