The Story of Tracy
As Tracy sat in an operations meeting with her manager, she thought to herself that joining Wakilni would definitely be a dream come true. Tracy had completed her bachelors in Logistics and Supply Chain Management and was pursuing a masters in Human Resource Management and Leadership at USJ when she started her internship at Wakilni. However, in her case, she did not seek Wakilni out! The company contacted her after USJ had sent out the students’ CVs to different companies. For Wakilni, the potential in Tracy’s application laid in her thesis project, which revolved around building a more positive workplace.

Tracy was reluctant at first, as her main priority was gaining valuable experience and she wasn’t very familiar with the company at first. Her initial responsibilities included filing, understanding the workflow, observing her supervisor's tasks, interviewing candidates (drivers), and working on a case study on Wakilni. But to her surprise, she soon found out that this internship became a crucial experience for her life, professionally and personally, as she developed an understanding of HR logistics, particularly in managing employee relations and optimizing a conducive work environment.

The internship also helped her build analytical skills, encouraging her to view her thesis from different angles. Additionally, assisting the HR Manager allowed her to gain hands-on experience in recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement. On a personal level, the experience made her build confidence in her own abilities, to adapt to a fast-paced work environment, and challenged her to improve her time management skills. Working with a diverse team also helped her grow comfortable in a collaborative environment.

What assisted Tracy, furthermore, through her journey of growth at Wakilni, was her excellent mentorship, which she explains helped her transition from university life to professional life. Moreover, the welcoming and friendly culture at Wakilni and those bi-weekly manicure sessions ensured that she was working in a positive and well-groomed environment.

However, the road was not without its perils! Writing a case study whilst completing her thesis was not for the easy. Another challenging task was interviewing employees as candidates for future employment with Wakilni, which required her to learn the entire procedure of carrying out interviews. Throughout all this, though, you did not hear a peep out of Tracy for she loved what she did! Her perseverance throughout has helped her grow exceptionally, as she is currently the Senior HR Supervisor at the company. To the future interns of Wakilni, she says: “Take this opportunity very seriously, ask as many questions as you can, and be as curious as you can be!”.
